If your response to all things Britney Speaks is "gimme more", then you'd best be feeling lucky in Sydney on Wednesday, October 25. In an already-massive Britney week thanks to the release of her new memoir The Woman in Me, the singer herself is coming to Australia to do two things: drive around the Harbour City in a Britney-themed bus and hand out copies of her book.
The date that every Britney fan was already anticipating just got even better, stronger and filled with bombastic love, with the pop superstar making her trip Down Under on the day that her tome launches in Australia and New Zealand. Fancy being given The Woman in Me by Spears? That's what the first 50 fans at Sydney Opera House at around 12pm will experience.
So, first Britney will drive Sydney crazy by hitting the road, with the Britney bus decked out with a picture of the '...Baby One More Time', 'Oops!... I Did It Again' and 'Toxic' talent — and, yes, with the Crossroads star onboard. Keep an eye out for it across Wednesday morning.
Then, Spears will stop at one of the city's iconic landmarks to personally hand out those 50 copies of The Woman in Me, and also provide photo opportunities.
The book tells Britney's tale in her own words — a story that's been covered in documentaries such as Framing Britney Spears and Britney vs Spears, both of which focused on the decade-plus that the star spent under a conservatorship, and has also received copious amounts of media and public attention everywhere. The official blurb for The Woman in Me promises that it's about "freedom, fame, motherhood, survival, faith and hope" as "written with remarkable candour and humour", and "illuminates the enduring power of music and love — and the importance of a woman telling her own story, on her own terms, at last".
"Britney's compelling testimony in open court shook the world, changed laws, and showed her inspiring strength and bravery. I have no doubt her memoir will have a similar impact — and will be the publishing event of the year. We couldn't be more proud to help her share her story at last," said Jennifer Bergstrom, Senior Vice President and Publisher of Gallery Books, when the book's publication date was announced.
The Woman in Me will also be available as an audiobook, with actor Michelle Williams (The Fabelmans) narrating.
2023 marks a quarter century since '...Baby One More Time' rocketed up Australia's charts, and made sure that everyone in the country knew who Britney was. Before then, she'd been in the spotlight since her time on The All-New Mickey Mouse Club in the early 90s; however, it was that blockbuster pop song that truly catapulted her to megastar-level fame. In the decades since, the singer has enjoyed a slew of other hits, thanks to everything from 'Sometimes' and 'Everytime' to 'Work Bitch' and 'If U Seek Amy'. Yes, you now have at least one of these songs stuck in your head (or, let's be honest, a medley of all them).
The Britney bus will drive around Sydney on Wednesday, October 25, and is expected at the Sydney Opera House at around 12–1pm. For more information about The Woman in Me, which releases in Australia on the same day, head to the book's website.
